The annual award ceremony is hailed as the ‘night of nights’ for the regional tourism industry and saw Boggabri,Tamworth, Willow Tree, and Nundletaking home awards across various categories.

The Nundle Woollen Mill took home bronze in Cultural Tourism and won the Judges’ Award overall while the Boggabri Drover’s Campfire Event won gold in Community Festivals and Events, the Tamworth Country Music Festival took the silver medal in Festivals and Events and the Liverpool Plains Visitor Information Centre won silver in Visitor Information Services.

Boggabri Drover’s Campfire Event co-ordinator Geoff Eather said eight people involved in the event travelled to Moama for the awards and were delighted to come home winners once again.

The event has won a truckload of awards since their first in 2010, including taking out gold at the NSW Tourism Awards in November last year.

“I think it a lot has to do with what you do with what you’ve got,” Mr Eather said.

“We tend to involve the community and I think that’s part of the reason (we’ve won) and also, the visitors who come say how well run it is. It is probably also due to the fact it is all done by volunteers.”

The Lions Club run the event and Mr Eather said, with a Christmas in July dinner on Thursday night, they would be celebrating the win then.

The festival is held on the last weekend in April.

The Regional Tourism Awards organisers congratulated the winners.

“This year, all entrants were of a high calibre,”awards chair Jane Barnes said.“In some categories the marks between finalists were so close that a silver and bronze award was given.”

The winners are now able to compete for finalist positions at the NSW Tourism Awards, which will be held in Sydney in November.
