A good ol’ country bush dance will be held on Saturday July 30 between 5pm and 8pm at the high school gym, which will be converted into a barn for the major fundraiser of 2016.

Student representative council (SRC) spokeswoman Rosanna Zomer said the decision to build a place for year 11 and 12 students to study quietly was one that had the full support of the administration and the P and C.

“We need a place to go to be more studious, a place that is quiet and allows us to concentrate,” she said.

“In the library it can become a little too loud and with exams and constantly having assessments it will be nice to a have a comfortable, quiet area, with access to computers and other study aids.

“This building that we are raising funds for will be really helpful for students.”

Miss Zomer said the SRC met with the P and C recently and talked through the logistics of the building and its construction.

“We had a meeting and we discussed things such as design and other practicalities,” she said.

“The student body is very thankful for the support we are being given by the Principal, teachers and the P and C.”

High School teacher Jill Malone said the school is hopeful the building can be built by the end of the year.

“We have decided upon a shipping container construction which will provide a place where seniors can go during their study periods,” she said.

“Mike Gray has left the school with a nest egg which the P and C plan to use with the funds raised from the canteen for this building.

“The bush dance is a chance for the students who participated in dance lessons during PE in Term two to show their parents their dancing skills and for the children to be the experts and teach their parents which should be a fun way to raise funds towards this worthy cause.”

Tickets for the bush dance are $10 including a cup of soup and tea and coffee and cordial. Children under five are free. Tickets are available at CRT, School office or Carelles.
