Gulgong retains top four spot with win at home

TRY AGAIN: Cal Rumming heads toward the try line for one of his two tries against Trangie at Billy Dunn Oval. Round 15 of the Bendigo Bank Castlereagh League (BBCL) rugby league threw up no great surprise results with wins going to the top four teams, that being Coonamble, Gulgong, Gilgandra and Coonabarabran.

At Billy Dunn Oval in Gulgongm the second placed Terriers had their game against the Trangie Magpies sown up in the first half leading 30 points to 8 at half time.

Whilst they did not go on with it in the second stanza they took the match comfortably 46 to 12.

For Gulgong,Dave Morrison scored three tries,Cal Rumming two tries andBrad James, Kurt Gudgeon, Steve Haney andRoger Wisbey one each.

The Coonabarabran Unicorns took a step closer to claiming a semi final berth when they downed a determined and enthusiastic Coolah Kangaroos team 44 to 28.

Kangaroos supporterswould have beenpleased with their team’s performance in the initial stages of the game as they proved that they are a capable team, but just can’t go the distance

The Coonamble Bears had to work hard before finally coming away with a win against a determined Warren Bulldogs outfit at Warren.

The huge crowd on hand was treated to a hard fought first forty minutes, and teams went tothe break with the Bears holding down a slender 14 to 10 lead

TheBears came out of hibernation after half time and shot out to have the scoreboard reading 26 to 10 in their favour but the Doggies staged acomeback to get within eight points of the unbeaten competition leaders at 30 points to 22.

The Grizzliesdrew away during the final minutes of the game to register yet another impressive victory, 48 to 22.

In the remaining game Gilgandra wastoo strong for the visiting Baradine Magpies.

Whilst there may not have been any major changes to the status quo in the rugby league the same cannot be said with the league tag competition.

The reigning premiers, the Coonamble Bearettesheld second placed Warren to a 16 all draw at Warren.

TheCoolah Flyers registered one of the biggest upset wins in the short history of BBCL league tag when they downed the Coonabarabran Unicorns 16 to 14.

This was the second defeat in as many weeks for the previously undefeated Coonabarabran team, and the loss, combined with Warren having a draw, means that they have surrendered their outright lead on thetable

TheBaradine Magpies leapfrogged the Gilgandra Pink Panthers on the ladder when they scored a very convincing 22 to 6 win over them at Gilgandra.

Another of the rapidly improving teams, the Gulgong Terrierettes, recorded their first ever win when they downed the fledgling Trangie Magpies at Gulgong.
