AFTER12 losses in a row, the Knights are in danger of equalling an unwanted club record when they tackle Manly at Brookvale Oval on Sunday.

HARD YARDS: Cronulla’s Luke Lewis powers ahead despite the tackle of Newcastle’s Trent Hodkinson.

Newcastle’s worst-ever losing streak was the 13-game stretch in 2005. After Sunday’s 36-4 defeat at Shark Park, they are 80 minutes from drawing level.Knights coach Nathan Brown said it was “not something that’s been spoken about” and was unlikely to provide his troops withmotivation.

“Club records, whether you’re winning or losing, are not something that coaches or players really look at too much,’’ Brown said.

WRAPPED UP: Newcastle’s defenders try to shut down Cronulla centre Gerard Beale on Sunday.

“That’s something for the media to talk about …. I suppose the result will tell the story. If it does equal the record, well, it equals the record. That’s the way it is.’’

Brown said the Knights have “a long-term plan” and wereimproving, pointing to Newcastle’s 62-0 thrashing from Cronulla in round 10 as evidence.“To be 10-0 [at half-time] as opposed to 36-0, like we were earlier in the year, does show that we have improved,’’ he said.
