Pro Shop still unbeaten

Mayso’s Pro Shop remain undefeated after the closest of tussles with perennial grand finalists Crystal Clear Rams 44-42 in round nine of Mudgee men’s basketball last Monday night at the PCYC.

No more than three points separated the protagonists ay any of the breaks, Mayso’s leading 11-8 at quarter time and 19-17 at half time.

Crystal Clear closed the gap slightly at the final break to trail 31-32, after outscoring Pro Shop 14-13, setting the stage for a big finish by either team to claim victory.

But, like the previous quarters, the last period was a neck and neck struggle, with both teams unable to put together a run of baskets to break the deadlock.

Both teams scored eleven points, Mayso’s hanging on to their two point lead at the final break to take the competition points.

For Mayso’s Pro Shop, Adam Keightley 20 points, Ethan Millsom 9, Dean Saxby 6.

Anthony Hamson 16 points for Crystal Clear Rams, Steve Consadine 14, Ben Edmunds 7.

Ghost Squad, with a 16-3 run in the final quarter, outlasted a persistent Country Physio to win 41-38 up at the St Matthews stadium.

Country Physio held a five point lead at the final break, but could not suppress an enthusiastic fight back from their opponents, who had all the answers (16-3) in the final quarter.

Zac Burley top scored for Ghost Squad with 17 points, Keeghan Munn 7.

For Country Physio, Joseph Jackson 12, Liam Young 11.

Lawson Park defeated Desperados 41-28 in the other match at the PCYC.

With only a 15-11 advantage at half time, Lawson Park were less than convincing.

However, in the second half they showed their experience to gradually pull away and outscore their opponents 26-16 to stay in second spot on the ladder, six points in arrears of Mayso’s Pro Shop who lead the competition on thirty six.

The other game at St Matthews was a forfeit win to The Purple Cobras after Eltons Hairy Globetrotters could only field three players.
